Ruido, El Clown, Cimarrón, Ángel and Maldeamores were the five films evaluated, by the Puerto Rico Film Commission Committee, for next years Oscar Considerations. The committee selected Maldeamores and sent the film to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for consideration in the Foreign Language Category. In 1989 Santiago, directed by Jacobo Morales, was nominated by the academy.
